The bitterness of neem leaves conceal many medicinal properties. It is considered effective in the treatment of eye disorders, leprosy, intestinal worms, loss of appetite, upset stomach, skin ulcers, cardiovascular diseases, fever, diabetes, gingivitis and liver problems. The Hakeems of Rampur prescribed neem to the Nawabs. The common people of Rampur used to drink boiled neem water, especially during monsoons to cure stomach ailments. Young girls were also made to drink neem water to help with menstrual issues and to cure pimples. Neem halwa is an effort made by Rampur khansamas to bring the bitter leaf to the dining table.
