Adrak Halwa

Adrak Halwa

Adrak halwa was said to be innovated in Rampur for a Nawab who was prescribed ginger for his joints. The cooks were asked to cleverly devise a ginger-halwa for the Nawab so he would never suspect that he was being fed the detested rhizome. Hence, adrak halwa was created, and it became the Nawab’s favourite sweet. The Rampuri adrak halwa is a speciality one might find at the local halwais. It is a seasonal halwa cooked during winter when new ginger roots are available. A delicious fix for joint aches as well as for curing colds and coughs.
